Funding Your Digital Project in Singapore: A Practical Guide to Grants
PSG, EDG and other schemes can lower the cost of going digital. Here's how Singapore SMEs should approach grant-funded website, app and automation projects.
Singapore has some of the most generous support in the region for businesses that want to go digital. Used well, government co-funding can make a project that felt out of reach suddenly affordable. Used badly, it can lock you into the wrong solution. Here's how to approach it.
The main schemes to know
Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG). Administered by Enterprise Singapore, PSG supports SMEs adopting pre-approved IT solutions and equipment — such as e-commerce, CRM, accounting, inventory and customer engagement tools. The key word is pre-approved: both the solution and the vendor must be listed on the GoBusiness portal.
Enterprise Development Grant (EDG). EDG supports larger, more customised projects that upgrade capabilities, innovate or help a business expand overseas. Custom platforms and digital transformation projects can fall under this scheme when they're tied to a clear business upgrade.
Sector programmes. IMDA's SMEs Go Digital programme and Industry Digital Plans recommend digital solutions by sector — useful as a checklist even if you don't apply for funding.
Support levels and eligibility rules change regularly, so always confirm the current terms on GoBusiness Gov Assist before you commit.
How to approach a grant-funded project
- Start with the business problem, not the grant. "We lose bookings because customers can't book after hours" is a better starting point than "what can we claim?"
- Check eligibility early: local shareholding, group turnover and headcount limits apply.
- Never sign or pay before your application is approved — costs incurred before approval are usually not claimable.
- Compare total cost of ownership, not just the subsidised price. Subscriptions continue after the grant ends.
When a grant isn't the right fit
Pre-approved packages are designed for common needs. If your business relies on a unique workflow, a customer-facing app or integration between several systems, a custom build may deliver more value even without co-funding — and you own the result.
