VRN Browser FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how VRN Browser works. Can't find yours? Contact support.

Getting started

Why does a page stop loading after I leave the tab?
That is the permit expiring. Background tabs are sealed after 3 seconds and the tab in front after 1 hour without activity, so nothing keeps talking to the internet while you are not looking. Tap Refresh or switch back to the tab to reconnect. You can change both timers in Settings.
Do I need an account?
No. VRN Browser opens straight into a guest session. A local profile is optional and lives only on your device; there is no sign-up, email address or account server.
Is VRN Browser free?
Yes. There are no ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases.

Privacy

What data does VRN Browser collect?
None. The app has no analytics, crash reporting or tracking, and it never connects to VRN Digital servers. Your history, profile and proxy settings stay encrypted on your device.
Is guest browsing saved anywhere?
Guest visits are never written to history, and website data such as cookies and cache is cleared every time a guest session starts, when you sign out and when you use panic wipe.
Does VRN Browser make me anonymous?
Normal tabs connect directly, so websites can see your IP address. Tor tabs hide it from the sites you visit, but no tool guarantees anonymity: what you sign in to and share still identifies you.

Tor and proxies

How do I open a Tor tab?
Choose New Tor tab from the tab menu. The first Tor tab starts the built-in Tor client, which can take 30 to 45 seconds; later Tor tabs reuse it and open in about a second.
Which proxies are supported?
SOCKS5 and HTTP proxies, with optional username and password. Proxy credentials are encrypted on your device. Each proxy tab uses its own connection; your other tabs are not affected.
Why can't I see Tor or proxy tabs on my iPhone?
They need iOS 17 or later (macOS 14 on Mac). On older versions both options stay hidden.

Profile and security

I forgot my profile passphrase. Can you reset it?
No, and neither can anyone else. The passphrase never leaves your device and there is no recovery service. Use Reset profile on the sign-in screen to delete the profile and its history, then create a new one.
What does panic wipe remove?
It closes all tabs, revokes every connection permit, clears website data and starts a fresh session. Profile history is kept unless you use Clear history, so a panic wipe is safe to use in a hurry.
Can I make VRN Browser my default browser?
Yes on Mac, Android, Windows and Linux: open Settings and use the Default browser card. Windows asks you to confirm the choice in Default apps. On iPhone the option opens iOS Settings; VRN appears in the Default Browser App list once Apple approves the default-browser entitlement for the app.
